Perception

While we journey towards our goals and achievements we may find that our expectations can be high. We might expect to finish what we put our minds on during a certain amount of time. The completion of our projects is not always as we imagine when we start them. While reaching our goals, we end up telling ourselves: "This is not how I imagined things would happen." Or "Things happened so quickly that I barely noticed the time passing."

This is because our perception of things may be influenced by different factors like culture, society, and beliefs. These beliefs "infused" in us from a very young age can shape the contour of our perception.

People perceive things very differently from one person to another. We assume that things must happen in a particular way, which is something that might interfere with experiencing the essential part of learning. We are people who love to control every aspect of our experiences and choose to do so every time we can.

Life is colourful if we see it in colours. Not everything is black and white except if we choose to see it that way.

Our perception might be influenced by motivation as well. If you are motivated to reach the completion of a certain project you will perceive things as being easy. This might not be the case always, but you are driven by your motivation. This is the reason why you can finalize your project.

The way we interact with the world is influenced as well by our perception of people. If we perceive people as being positive we assume that we might have positive interactions. If we perceive them otherwise, we tend to "analyze" them before we commit to building a long-lasting relationship.

In some cases, we might perceive things the opposite way because of the context in which we find ourselves. Make sure to take things out of context before you make an honest opinion about people or experiences.

We all have different personalities. That is one of the reasons why it affects our perception of things. Some of us might perceive life experiences and events as being dramatic or stimulating. Some of us might perceive things as being quite in the "norm".

The same is true with certain types of food. If we have a positive opinion towards a particular type of meal, we will surely say that it tastes better than those who do not.

Another factor that might influence our perception is attention. If we are attentive to all the details when an experience is occurring we surely perceive things a lot differently than if we were not as attentive.

Perceiving things through our lenses is as important to our life journey as it is to try to perceive things through other people's lenses. We are all unique and look at things with our unique perceptions.

It is valuable to us to know that we need to step out from our life experiences and look around.

Sometimes when things get difficult we need to question our perception of things and remind ourselves that life needs to be "colourful" and our experiences diverse.

Going through positive life experiences might change your perception of things especially if you struggled. This is one of the reasons why is better to focus on the positive in each experience you encounter. If you had not been challenged you wouldn't have seen things so clearly.

Perceiving things when we expect positive outcomes will also enrich our evolution as a whole and balanced human beings when life gets hectic.

Try dedicating time to reflect on your perception and question yourself why you perceive things the way you do.

When you focus more on this matter, I am sure that you will find a lot of answers to most of your unanswered questions.

William Blake said: "If the doors of perception were cleansed everything would appear to man as it is, Infinite."

I say that we must change the angle when perceiving things. I am sure we can understand better if we try to "see" more clearly.
